A snow day?
When I was a wee lad (before becoming a wee man) we never had snow days. We did have cold days when the temperature dropped below -40. The thing is we never got to go inside the school before 9 a.m.. Had to line up outside and go in when the principal, Mrs. Gascan, deemed to allow us to enter in an orderly fashion. Try that at -35 when you are 8 years old. :-)
